Turks & Caicos Election Assesment

ERIS was tasked by the FCO to provide an independent election observation mission for the General Election held in the Turks and Caicos Islands on 9 February.

Gavin Aarvold, an ERIS consultant was deployed to the island as a Long Term Observer, and mission co-ordinator for the UK observer team. Gavin was also joined by Melanie Leathers, James Blair and Derek MacLeod, who acted as short-term observers, monitoring the end of campaigning and conduct of the polls.

Previously a dependency of Jamaica, the Turks and Caicos Islands became a crown colony upon Jamaican independence in 1962.

The islands are 166 sq miles in size, with a population of around 30,600.

ERIS has previous experience in the Turks & Caicos, having conducted a full election assessment there in 2003.
