ERIS co-organises event on follow-up to EU election observation missions

October 2013

Election observation and follow-up recommendations have come a long way. However, the crucial question of how to encourage the political will to make the necessary reforms remains.

Recently Democracy Reporting International (DRI), in cooperation with experts of the EU Election Observation Mission (EOM), toured the country to discuss the EU recommendations with more than 900 politicians, civil society representatives, and journalists. ERIS and DRI wished to highlight the experiences of this novel project and debate its meaning for follow-up work for the EU and other organisations involved in democracy support, in particular in the European Neighbourhood, and held an event to do so with the European Endowment for Democracy (EED).
