Algeria: ERIS project to assist development of independent TV station

August 2012

ERIS in May 2012 started a two-year project in Algeria aimed at providing technical assistance to the independent domestic TV station Echorouk, with support from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)'s Arab Partnership Fund. The project will implement a training programme for journalists and technicians and assist in the development of a political debate show.

Following the passing of a more open new media law, several Algerian TV stations have been launched. The new TV station is part of the Al Chorouk group, which includes a daily newspaper and weekly magazine that is distributed across the Arab world. The project has recently been visited by Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the FCO, Alistair Burt (below).
