Tunisia: ERIS organises election training for police

August 2011

From 5 - 10 September 2011, the ERIS election assistance project in Tunisia will conduct an election security workshop for police, together with its partner Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and in cooperation with the Tunisian Ministry of Interior.  The project is funded by the European Union.

International trainers will train 60 senior police and gendarmie officials, who then intend to pass on the training to other police officers prior to the 23 October constituent assembly elections.

In particular the workshops will focus on a human rights approach to policing, the role of police during elections and conflict resolution.  An overview of training techniques will also be presented, to facilitate the ability of participants to pass the training on to others.
