MINISTERS PRESENT DEMOCRACY POLICY AT ERIS EVENT

December 2010

British Government support for democracy worldwide was the subject of speeches by two Ministers at a meeting organised by ERIS on Monday 13 December.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister of State Jeremy Browne MP and the Department for International Development Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Stephen O'Brien MP chose as their theme 'Is democracy more than elections?' and used the occasion to launch the new FCO and DFID guidelines on electoral assistance.

The event, which was chaired by ERIS Chair Keith Best, took place at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.  It was attended by an invited audience of diplomats, politicians, representatives of non-governmental organisations, academics, observers and democracy experts.
